OFTEN, rain falling on the metal roofs of multi-storey car parks produces much noise which reverberates throughout the entire structure. The resulting sound is a nuisance that causes discomfort for nearby residents as well. Designed to reduce the noise levels up to 15dB, Resonac serves as an audio damping compound.
This fast-drying water-based visco-elastic compound meets required low smoke and toxic fume emission standards. It is a thixotropic paste and so it does not exhibit unwanted ingredient separation. Furthermore, it is low in density yet effective at reducing resonant vibrations and increasing transmission loss on sheet-metal roof panels. Resonac is applied to the underside of the metal sheets, either by rolling-on or by spraying to reduce undesired rain-generated roof noise.
It is not necessary to place additional insulation layers beneath the roof to further absorb noise caused by the falling rain. Resonac D is used for a dark-grey finish on the underside of a roof system. It comes in off-white (known as Resonac M) as well. With a coating as thin as 0.5mm to 1mm thick, the roofing system is much lighter overall, which means there is no need for additional structural support.
Resonac will last as long as the metal roofing does. The product’s performance is optimal even should the roof expand. It is flame resistant-rated as a Class 1 to BS 476: Part 7: 1997 – on non-combustible surfaces. This long-lasting damping compound is environmentally friendly, and is UV-resistant and water- resistant.
