Monday, 03 November 2008 12:54 - ALUCORE honeycomb aluminium composite panels

MOST people will immediately relate to ALUCOBOND, one of the most established and best selling aluminium composite panels in the world, developed some 35 years ago and successfully used under all climatic conditions on five continents.
Now from Alcan Composites, the company that developed ALUCOBOND, comes ALUCORE which is already being widely used in many countries around the world.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office">

ALUCORE is manufactured by Alcan Singen GmbH in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags">

Germany using the same proven technology as applied in the production of ALUCOBOND. The highly rigid and light panel consists of two skins of aluminium alloy bonded in a continuous production process to a core of aluminium honeycomb. The viscoplastic adhesive used results in a better peel strength which enables post-forming. For example, ALUCORE can be curved using conventional pyramid rollers. The manufacturers believe that no other honeycomb panel can be shaped so easily.

The difference between ALUCOBOND and ALUCORE lies in the weight and rigidity. For example, if composite panels are chosen because of their flatness, ALUCOBOND is an excellent choice for modular panels in sizes up to 1250 x 3000 mm. However, for bigger panels, ALUCORE will be a better choice. With its much higher rigidity and strength, it is possible to have larger panel sizes, up to 1500 x 6000 mm, without the need for stiffeners.

ALUCORE is also an excellent material for linkway and shelter applications. As a result of the product’s light weight and excellent strength, large exterior ceilings and roofs constructed from ALUCORE, are flat and do not sag, even after many years of exposure to wind and external weather conditions.

The proven paint finish is another valuable characteristic of ALUCORE. The skins are coil-coated with high quality paint, prior to lamination into a composite panel. There are 30 available PVDF stand- ard colours to choose from, for exterior applications. For larger quantities, panels with special colours and finishes can also be supplied. These include decorative foil applications (wood, stone, etc).

Like in the case of ALUCOBOND, ALUCORE is not sold over the counter. For every application, the product is tailored to suit the specific requirements of the client’s project.

They are changing the way such roofs are constructed, and are making these less expensive as well as easier to install. The product eliminates many problems typically associated with installing a green roof. Green Paks are self contained modules pre-packed with engineered soil; specifically formulated for rooftop plant growth; and can be stored for long periods of time prior to the start of a green roof project. They remain mobile after planting, allowing the modules to be easily moved if roof repairs or alterations become necessary. Each module covers 5.2 square feet of roof area. They are made from specially woven fabric knitted of high density polyethylene. Packaged as 42 modules per standard 48? x 42? pallet, 20 pallets per truck load, each pallet of Green Paks covers 218.4 square feet of roof area. <?xml:namespace prefix = o>

Tuesday, 14 October 2008 11:05 - Nu-Lok Launches World’s First Solar Roofing System

Award-winning global roofing company Nu-lok Roofing Systems, has launched the world’s first fully integrated solar roofing system.

Traditional panels might require expensive and heavy fixing structures to attach them to the roof. This system from Nu-lok simply locks the panels into the existing battens to provide a safe power source, which seamlessly integrates into the existing roof.

Nu-lok’s existing patented fixing system - which replaces traditional wooden battens with a lightweight, galvanised steel grid system - combines with specially designed solar PV (photovoltaic) panels.

Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels work by converting solar energy into electricity. PV panels consist of one or two layers of a semi-conducting material, usually silicon. When light hits the solar PV panels on the roof, it creates an electrical field across the layers, thus generating electricity. This powers all appliances and lighting, much the way electricity from a mains supply does.

Nu-lok solar roof claims the following benefits:

• A dedicated, clean, safe power source
• Reduced electricity bills; and protection against rising energy costs
• Reduced carbon dioxide emissions; increased property value
• Minimal maintenance with long operational life
• No moving parts - silent operation Seamless integration with an existing roof

Not only is the environment set to benefit from an ongoing reduction in CO2 emissions, immediate financial savings are made by eliminating the need for expensive and unsightly support housings.

Nu-lok’s founder Bob Hick explains: “We were surprised to discover that people don’t realise the manufacture of support carriages for solar panels actually creates additional CO2 emissions. These emissions extend the time needed to obtain a positive return from your investment in solar panels.

“Nu-lok is pleased to offer a solar roofing solution that not only looks fantastic, but really does keep CO2 emissions to an absolute minimum,” Hick explained.

Nu-lok’s system doesn’t require any nails or screws, which means installation costs are significantly reduced and panels can be easily removed or replaced. Extra panels can also be simply added to increase the amount of electricity generated.
